Amidst historically low
ratings and criticism that American Idol has grown stale, Randy Jackson
resigned from the Fox competition.
“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of
the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have
decided it is time to leave after this season,” Jackson told
E! News. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music
industry.”
Jackson went on to say he
plans to focus on his company, Dream Merchant 21, as well as “other business
ventures.”
Ratings for Season 12 of
Idol have been decreasing each week and there's been talk that all four judges
would have been replaced this summer even if Jackson did not leave on his own.
