SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN MARRIED TO NIGERIANS STAGE PROTEST AGAINST DISCRIMINATION

Some South African women married to Nigerians staged a peaceful protest yesterday,on the streets of johannasburg. This women under the aegis united nigerian wives in south Africa said they were protesting against intimidation and discrimination by the officers of the home by the officials of the home affairs department. One of the organisers Mrs Uche who is made up of the south african wives association who is married to a Nigerian under the umbrella of Nigerian union of south Africa said that the reason for the protest is to demand for their rights as South African citizen over freedom of marriage and association. we want to put an end to the current situation where most of us married to Nigerians are being called names such as "prostitutes" and insulted infront of ourchildren when we go to the immigration office to renew passports for out husbands. She wants to know if the constitution only applies to south African women married to foreigners who are given due respect by home officials but Nigerians are being voilated and some oftheir are not allowed entry into south Africa which affects their children who live with the fear of not knowing when their dads will kum back. The body wants to meet the minister of home affairs within 21 days to present the grievances of the victims and resolve it thereby leading to unification of the families affected by the challenge.
