COURT SENTENCES 19 YEAR OLD DESPITE PLEA HE STOLE TO FEND FOR HIMSELF

A circuit court in Kumasi has sentenced a nineteen year old unemployed young man to three years in imprison for possessing firearms and stealing, despite pleas he did so to fend for himself.
Osei Kwame, according to the GNA, claimed he was not in a position to take care of himself and had to resort to stealing in order to survive.
Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that on April 29, the suspect was rescued from the hands of a mob around Kronom in Kumasi after he was caught stealing used clothing.
He was rescued by a bystander who handed him over to the police together with the stolen items.
