The
Jigawa government said on Thursday in Dutse that it spent more than N12
million in the past six years to procure and distribute assorted
cosmetics to 100 albinos.
The
Executive Secretary of the Jigawa Rehabilitation Board, Ibrahim
Rabakaya, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria.
He
said that the cosmetics and other consumables provided to albinos were
part of the gesture to protect them from the rays of the sun and avoid
skin diseases.
“It is a deliberate policy design to improve the socio-economic well-being of persons with albinism.”
Mr.
Rabakaya said that the board had also trained albinos on various trades
under its skills acquisition programmes to enable them be self-reliant.
He added that the programme would encourage albinos to set up their businesses and contribute to the development of the society.
