A Roselle, Ill., man was charged with animal cruelty after police
investigating another crime discovered that he had sexually abused his
pet peacock.
David Beckmann, 64, was booked at DuPage County jail on Wednesday on
separate charges of battery and attempted indecent solicitation of a
child, the Daily Herald reported.
Authorities said they found his pet bird, who was named Phyl, dead in
Beckmann’s garage on April 28. Details about how and when the peacock
died remain unclear.
Police told the Daily Herald that they could not talk about the animal cruelty charges because they relate to a case involving a child.
In addition to the animal cruelty charge, court records show that
Beckmann faces three charges of harassment by telephone, two counts of
marijuana possession, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia,
attempted indecent solicitation of a child and two counts of battery.
He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond, and an arraignment has been scheduled for June 12, according to NBC Chicago.
